Dance Programs


Kathak

(7 years and up)


Kathak is one of the most popular of Indian classical dances and was originally a North Indian temple dance based on devotional songs to honor the gods. It is a narrative dance form characterized by precise footwork, interpretive spins and the innovative use of poignant expressions to depict a story or emotion.

Bharatnatyam

(5 years and up)

​ Bharatnatyam is a true fusion of expression and melody blended with rhythm and is the oldest Indian classical dance originating in Tamil Nadu in South India. Its fluid lines and graceful moves make this dance an extension of the music itself.

Kuchipudi

(5 years and up)

Kuchipudi, a unique Indian classical dance-drama performance art,  derives its name from the village of Kuchelapuram, in Andhra Pradesh, India.  This dance form  is characterized by  intricate footwork, graceful movements, and subtle facial expressions creating a unique blend of control and abandon, strength and delicacy.  Kuchipudi is recognized as one of the eight classical dance forms of India and is performed both within India and internationally.

Indian Popular Dance- Bollywood

Popularly known as “Bollywood Dance,” our exclusive popular dance program offers a holistic and structured syllabus. This program will teach technique, style and form along with a deep understanding of folk and contemporary Indian dance. As with all our other programs, students will graduate to higher levels as they become more proficient.


Vocal Music Programs


Hindustani Classical Music

(5 years and up)

Hindustani music was initially a form of meditation, prescribed in ancient Hindu scriptures. It has since evolved into one of the most intense, enthralling and complete musical systems ever developed. It is based upon Ragas and Taals, each designed to affect the different Chakras (energy centers) that reside within the human body.

Carnatic Classical Music

(5 years and up)

​Carnatic classic music is the classical music of Southern India and one of the world's oldest & richest musical traditions. The basic form is a monophonic song with improvised variations. There are 72 basic scales on the octave and a rich variety of melodic motion. Both melodic and rhythmic structures are varied and compelling.

Instrumental Music Programs


Sitar

(7 years and up)

​The sitar is a plucked string instrument common to Classical Indian music, particularly in the Hindustani (Northern Indian) classical traditions. One of its most popular exponents is Pandit Ravi Shankar, who jammed with the Beatles, thus introducing the wonders of the melodious sitar to the western world.

Tabla

(7 years and up)

​The tabla occupies a place of pride amongst Indian musical instruments and is a huge hit with young boys and girls. The energetic beats of the tabla have a unique ability to transform any kind of music and give it a completely new dimension. It is the ideal accompaniment and an inseparable part of North India classical music (Hindustani Music) including the religious and popular music forms.

Piano

(4 years and up)

The piano is probably the most versatile of all instruments. In addition to its solo repertoire, the piano is used to accompany singers and appears in ensembles of all sizes and in virtually all styles of music. Our piano teachers are highly trained, dedicated and experienced in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, and rhythm and blues.

The study of piano provides younger students with a solid foundation in music theory and a natural transition to composition. Piano is also an excellent first instrument for students who may later wish to investigate other instruments or to study voice. Private lessons allow our teachers to tailor their instruction to the needs, abilities, and learning style of each student. Students have the option of attaining certification through the Trinity School of Music, UK.

Guitar

(7 years and up)

​Kulture Kool provides students of all any experience to work in a highly tailored, one-on-one environment with professional guitar educators across a range of musical traditions. Private lessons are matched to each individual's goals and existing playing ability. Students have the option of attaining certification through the Trinity School of Music, UK

Drums

(7 years and up)

Drums are one of the world’s oldest instruments and perhaps the most fundamental. They provide the backbone of the music, attract lots of attention, and their rhythms are one of the defining characteristics of any particular style of music. Students will learn essential techniques for successful performance, including:
  • Proper grip and hand position
  • Posture at the drum-set
  • Rhythm reading from beginning to advanced
  • Rudiments, rolls, drum-set coordination (Independence)
  • Wide varieties of beats and styles, including jazz, rock, R&B, Latin, country, Broadway, world music, etc.
  • Chart reading and interpretation

Music Production

This unique program is an introduction to the fundamentals of music production including:
• Process design and budget management.
• Musical Arrangement.
• Recording fundamentals.
• Pro-Tools
• Audio.
• MIDI.
• Sound design.
• Mixing/Mastering.

Rock guitar

This program will introduce students to the Fundamentals of rock music harmony namely the Blues and some jazz basics. They will move on to
Fundamentals of rock music rhythm playing as rock is mostly dependent on groove as well as Fundamentals of lead playing which is the signature of this genre

Cultural Immersion, Language & Drama Programs


Guru Kool (Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Tamil)

Guru Kool is our signature program and is designed to introduce Indian language and culture. The curriculum is based on sight, sound, touch, smell and taste, to make India come alive for the youngsters in a way they have never experienced before.


The goal of Guru Kool is to build a foundation that will make India tangible in the minds of our students. The program also focuses on helping families create their own traditions and bond with their Indian heritage in a meaningful way.


The class offers a variety of interactive activities to make cultural learning an exciting experience. We use books, CDs, DVDs and/or educational worksheets, including hands-on projects, to enhance the cultural learning process and as teaching aides during the sessions.


Our program familiarizes students with the geography, history, literature, arts and crafts, politics and social fabric of India while attempting to grasp the unique philosophies, diverse traditions and rich cultural heritage that has passed down through centuries. Our goal is to make the learning process so intriguing that a deeper understanding of India’s cultural heritage can be achieved.


The program includes:

  • Yoga
  • Introduction to sholkas, national anthem and Hindi Nursery Rhymes
  • Introduction to the alphabet
  • Stories from Indian mythology, Panchatantra, Jatakas and other folk tales
  • Language Immersion: Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil
  • Interactive activities and games to educate on the history, geography, sights and sound of India
  • Introduction to Festivals of India and various customs from different parts of the country
  • Introduction to cultures from around the world through stories, songs and images
  • Introduction to Indian dance and music

hindi

(8 years and up)

We offer Hindi as a second language classes which work on improving a students proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension. Students appear for state testing of Hindi as a part of New Jersey Department of Education's World Languages program and can get the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy from the state on completion of the testing.

Drama & Musical Theater

(5 years and up)


Our drama class is for all children, from the shy to the outgoing, so they can develop at their own pace with plenty of positive encouragement. Students perform twice per year – once during the holidays and once for an annual recital. Children learn the following through our program.

VOICE

(5 years and up)

This group class is fun, energetic, informative and a great place to begin your child’s vocal journey. Watch them blossom and gain confidence, become more self-aware, expand social skills and learn about emotions while developing vocal and performance skills. This is helped by students being exposed to different musical concepts, including music theory, singing in front of others which builds confidence, and applying what they learn in a showcase-style setting.

S.T.E.M Enrichment

In partnership with Funtastic Science, this program brings to you science enrichment for ages 3 to 12 years with a variety of fun, hands on and engaging topics which are rarely covered in school curriculum. Students get to experience hands-on learning by experimenting, building, destroying, questioning and analyzing a variety of age appropriate STEM topics.
